Two things the fan agree on today: Santeri Väänänen will become a huge player for Rosenborg, and Kjetil Rekdal will hopefully be forgotten soon enough.

I had to calm down after the match before coming here. Until today, I was willing to give Rekdal time. I never wanted him as our coach (who did? oh yes, the previous board), and I knew he'd never Make Rosenborg Great Again, but I thought maybe he and his experience were what was needed at this point, to keep discipline in the young squad and to prepare them for the next head coach, who could then take over after next season and go on to do great things. And last autumn was kind of ok, after all. But today's performance was absolutely dismal, apart from the first 15 minutes. Even worse than the last home game. And he's starting to panic, losing whatever grip he had on things. I want him out. The sooner the better.

The one and only positive thing today: Santeri. By far our best outfield player today, maybe the best overall (hard to compare outfielders and keepers).

It is really interesting to see that Horneland and Rekdal have been managers for the same amounts of time. Rekdal took charge of a team that, at the time, would be perfect for attacking 4-3-3, and shaped it with transfers and sales to become a 5-3-2 - or that's at least how I've experieenced it. And it is the same vibes as during Hamrén, we are not attempting to play attacking football with a focus on relations between players and all the stuff we have done for over 35 years really. Last year we did well solely because of Vecchia, Tengstedt and Sæter having the time of their life, and this season has proved that. We can't play the same way now, because we don't have two target men with the skills and form to have the confidence to do what they do. He might be a very knowledgeable guy, but he clearly lacks the skill to teach the players what they are supposed to do - an extra problem when we have people who don't speak Norwegian, seeing as the managers do not speak English well at all. So yeah, it's time to go looking for a new one, and no, we're not taking Koskela.

Santeri was great, seemed like he got a bit tired, but of course he did, he never stopped running. He'll be a fan favourite earning the #6 in no time.

Santeri reminds me of Mike Jensen. The same tireless running, the same challenging and fighting for the ball at every opportunity, and the same complaining about every referee decision that goes against him . A bit more precision in his passing play, and a bit of proficiency in Norwegian, to verbally abuse opponents at the right times, and he'll have everything it takes to become a legend.

I think most players are a bit shielded from the harshest critics because of the distrust of the manager. And subbing out the only striker that has regularly gotten to the chances is horrible. And then they talk about a lack of consistency in the group, that players aren't playing enough together. Seems like the people on the bench are losing it a bit.

Rosenborg fans are talking about Svein Maalen as a temporary manager until we get a new one in place, and that would be really interesting to see. Because he follows the old school of Nils Arne Eggen 4-3-3-football. And the way I see it today, we could end up lining up like this:

Nelson/Ingasson - Sadiku/Aga - Holse/Thorvaldsson

Broholm/Skarsem - Väänänen/Skjelbred - Nypan/Bjørlo

Pereira/Tagset - Jenssen/Rogers/Røsten - Henriksen/Børkeeiet - Reitan/Cornic

Hansen/Tangvik

Henriksen could go back to the midfield as well, making it harder for Santeri, unless Santeri will get the "less attacking" role of the indreløpers. Holse could also end up being more central, but then there's a lack of wingers. Sæter would probably get to play too, but he shouldn't so I didn't add him.

I wouldn't say no to Maalen as a caretaker manager now. And it's just absurd that, at the same time as Rekdal is fumbling in the dark with 5-3-2/3-5-2/3-4-3/3-4-1-2 (the last seems to be what we started out as on Wednesday, but everything soon became blurry), the club has Maalen, employed at the club as the coach trainer, teaching seminars about how to play attacking 4-3-3, and if I've understood correctly, RBK2, the women's team, and the academy teams are all playing 4-3-3 (correct me if I'm wrong here, Norjalainen!). The whole club is now built around old-school 4-3-3, with the exception of the first team.

Nelson is the only player in the squad at the moment who could be considered a natural winger, that's a slight problem with switching to Maalen & 4-3-3 immediately. But I expect that would still work better than what we have now.

Sæter would probably get to play too, but he shouldn't so I didn't add him.

I hope Maalen would be able to go back to his current important work though, because Rosenborg both needs him there, and some new influences from the manager position. The women's team play attacking and entertaining football as the club have written in it's laws(at least principles), but it's a 4-2-3-1 last I saw, but the differences there aren't that big. RBK 2 might be playing 3-5-2 now - and losing while doing it. The youth teams however are playing 4-3-3 as far as I know. But the staff, the other coaches, even the scouts and office workers are 4-3-3 people. It's "only" the manager and his first assistant that aren't - while the second assistant is Roar Strand, who played Eggens 4-3-3 football for 14 years or something, and even if he had different managers between 2002 and the first half of 2010, it's nice that his first and last manager with Rosenborg actually was Nils Arne Eggen.

Either way, I also posted in what I hope is the Norwegian league thread. As this part of Rosenborg doesn't really affect the two players that much, until Rekdal gets fired. Because that's a "when" not an "if" anymore.


Edit: It also seems Rosenborg might go back to 5-3-2 against Vålerenga on Saturday, Thorvaldsson and Sadiku tested together on training today apparently.

And I can only assume comparing Sadiku with Pellegrino is a joke? I do agree though, he has to score goals, but he's playing for a team where scoring goals isn't the main priority.

Sadiku not being given any real chances today, keeps starting runs without getting the pass, he runs a lot in the early pressure. But lets see how many changes are done in the break.

Rekdal makes 4 subs at once, and takes off Sadiku, but at least Väänänen comes in. Santeri does well again, but there's no solid plan for this team in their attacking play. It's just one disaster to the next. I think at least Sadiku got the free kick that lead to Rosenborg's goal.

There also was a neat touch further out in the match, where the fans removed the "Here we play" part of it, so it just said "entertaining and attacking football" as a demand. Just like in Molde some time back, where a banner said "Samhandling", which means something along the lines of players playing well together and having a good squad dynamic, "same-action" I guess would be a direct translation. But as we were losing in Molde and looking bad, they removed the first part, so "Samhandling" became "Handling" - which just means "action", do something.

Kjernen have started to become real good at passive aggressive post-it notes, basically.

Rosenborg nyt näköjään sijalla 10/16 ja takana tulevilla kaikilla 1-2 peliä vähemmän pelattuna. Putoamispeikko on siis ihan todellinen. Ihme on, jos valkku jatkaa. Onneksi nyt ainakin Sande on käyttänyt minuuttinsa vissiin ihan hyvin, jos ja kun valmentajanvaihto on ilmeinen, niin saanee reilun mahdollisuuden uuden valkun alaisuudessakin.

The training where we'd get an indication of who plays was moved, so both press and supporters weren't there to see. I think Rosenborg will wait as long as possible to confirm who starts, maybe they have some secret plans against Bodø. But to be honest, it would almost be for the better if neither played today, because most fans are expecting a huge loss today, and unless our secret plans are really good, I don't see how anyone will walk off the pitch having looked good today.
