Santeri is getting a lot of praise from all kinds of Rosenborg-fans, and he did do a really good match. I hope we get to see more. But with Brann playing a 4-3-3, I can only assume Rekdal will default to his "tried and trusted" 5-3-2, which leaves no room for Väänänen(somehow), but maybe Sadiku will play over Isak?

Also Tomas had an annoyingly good match, saved Odd a few times(even if he did some mistakes too).

I remember when Riku Riski played in RBK, there was some talk that RBK always “has to” play with 4-3-3 because it’s a tradition of the club or something. Is that no longer the case or do I just remember incorrectly?

But we did play some 4-4-1-1 with "Perry", with great success for Riku as the player behind the striker, we also did a lot of 4-5-1(he was never a 4-3-3-manager). But when Kåre took over for "Perry" half way through 2014, we were absolutely done with trying anything but 4-3-3, and Riski started to fall out of the team. Also because local players started to outperform him on the wing. And after Kåre was fired, we immediately dropped the "back to the roots"-plan, and hired Horneland who wanted to play 4-4-1-1, but was bullied so much he changed to 4-3-3 three matches into the league in 2019. Then Hareide wanted to play 4-3-3, with no motivation or interest, so that didn't work out, so now we have Kjetil Rekdal, who insists on calling it a 3-5-2, but the second the opposition have the ball, even far into their own half, the players line up in a flat 5-3-2, and most people are starting to lose their faith in Rekdal now. 4-3-3 again next?

I kind of hope we'll see someone who has a little bit more versatility, a 4-2-3-1 looking system, or as it's called in Trondheim "4-3-3 with an inverted V", could fit Santeri really well, and it would be enough players up front to give Sadiku chances to actually score - if he gets to play.

I have been following Rosenborg basically all my life - except as a kid I wasn't really into watching football, just playing FIFA, so I skipped all of the Champions League-adventure until 2007 - and have been to hundreds of matches at this point, and I am a member of the club, so I am just happy to be able to share some of the knowledge. And not just talk to Norwegians about Finnish football, after having been called a "Finnish football expert" a few times now - which in Norway just means I know who Liimatta and Keskinen are. So, as I asked about in a different thread to, if anyone wants to tell me the same stuff I can tell about Rosenborg, about the town, the history, the managers, the playstyle, attitudes, rivalries and so on about their club(s) in Finland, I will be happy to receive it as a message, so we can keep this thread on track.

And on that note, I can add that last summer Rosenborg had considered a transfer for Diogo Tomas, but the manager shut it down, as "someone who is 25 shouldn't still be playing in Finland if they are an actually good player" :)

I was thinking about that too. But I don't think it changes much for Santeri, as he's not competing for Holse's position in either 3-4-3 or 5-3-2, his competitors are Bjørlo, Skjelbred, and for some Rekdal-reason Børkeeiet. As the hard working midfielder, rather than Holse's "we gotta have one creative guy on the midfield"-position or Henriksen's "playmaker/anchor"-role. I hope he gets to play regardless though, and for Rosenborg that Broholm takes Holse's spot.

You're right about the roles, of course. At the same time, especially if we go back to 3-5-2 (5-3-2) again, that might open for playing Santeri as indreløper (ahem ), as Rekdal has seemed reluctant to use Broholm as a starter. But being Rekdal, he might of course prefer Bjørlo, because he did make one creative pass in the pre-season...

I'm hoping we continue with 3-4-3, though.

Bjørlo is Rekdal's man, same as Rogers. Will start even if others have shown to be better. And against Brann we are absolutlely going to play 5-3-2, because he has convinced himself and a lot of the audience - especially through the one big podcast - that 5-3-2 is the 4-3-3-killer because it worked against Bodø that one time. We might go back to 3-4-3, unless 5-3-2 works against Brann, against Vålerenga, where we might face another Finnish player that can play the match of his life with Daniel Håkans who is in great scoring form these days.

It is strange to see Broholm not in, but Nelson is a really good player as well. It's not going to be the easiest match for Agon to start in, if he does this time. I can also see this lineup be a 3-4-3, with Nelson and Ingasson on each side of Sadiku, in that case Sadiku should have a good day.

Rekdal has called Brann the best team in the league(they just got promoted), so we might have a bit of a defensive lineup, so don't expect too much help for Sadiku up top, and expect a lot of work for Santeri.

Well it kind of started in 2017, that was when the current bad patch started, but that's a story too long to explain during the match. Before that is was the end of 2010, when Rosenborg sat with no money after spending big and getting nothing back, and also refused to keep Nils Arne Eggen as the manager. Before that it was Eggen leaving in 2002 that started things.
